than two hundred years upright pianos have been used by professional pianists
to create all styles of music. Its only rival is the grand piano which still
has a slight edge above it since it is the instrument of choice for the
classical musician. The only drawback of a grand piano is that it can be very
pricey and it can take up a lot of room too. When you are looking into buying
an upright piano there are several things that you need to consider before
purchasing one.
There are
two main styles of an upright piano, the digital and the acoustic. One of the
main differences between the two is the sound. The most important concept for
buying a piano is the sound that it produces. An acoustic piano creates sound
through a mechanical system of hammers hitting strings while a digital one
produces sounds electronically.
The weight
and price of these two styles of pianos should also be something that you
should take into consideration. Acoustic piano designs are made to be bulkier
and as a result, they tend to be much heavier, than their digital counterparts.
Room for the piano should also be taken into account. A digital one are
generally smaller and much lighter making them easier to move around.
How the keys
feel can also be a determining factor when out buying a piano. Acoustic upright
pianos are made with keys that feel weighted, this means that the softness or
loudness of the notes depends on how hard the keys are pressed. Most digitalpianos, especially the cheaper ones, do not have weighted keys.
One
advantage that a digital instrument has is the lack of upkeep that is required
when compared to the acoustic version. An acoustic version needs to be serviced
and tuned on a regular basis while digital ones need virtually no maintenance
at all.
It was
thought that digital instruments would never be able to compete with acoustic
ones. But with new developments being made on electronic instruments they are
starting to give their acoustic versions a run for their money.
